...and why YOU should care about yours.

I have been wanting to write this post for a long time. Personal style is important, maybe not saving the earth important, but I believe it can actually accomplish great things.

In a world where we watch beautiful people live their perfect lives all over social media, it can be easy to lose track of yourself. I think that the current social standard has been set insanely high and can create negativity and disappointment in ourselves, which is ultimately pretty shitty. It shouldn't be that way, and it doesn't have to be.

Okay, so now I'm going to get a little personal (readers beware). For YEARS I struggled with depression and it negatively shaped my life. I think most of my depression came from a major lack of self confidence. High school was shitty because I constantly tried to gain my classmates approval, and when I didn't get it, I would really beat myself up. I also noticed that I tried SO hard to fit in and be like everyone else. Just had to be 'liked'. I wish that I could go back and shake my younger self! The reason you have to try so hard is because you're not being yourself. Do you, love yourself and people will always want to be around you because you will be HAPPY. Let's just say my high-school self definitely wouldn't have been confident enough to blast all of these selfies and my older wiser form embraces it.

Other than giving social media a break to regroup and remember why you're amazing, try doing something for yourself. For your confidence. Put on something you LOVE. Something that makes you feel 100% YOU. When you get dressed, you should be happy and excited to show the world what you have on. I know this may seem so trivial but it's an easy, simple, way to feel better throughout your day.

Getting dressed is already a daily requirement (well, for most cities) so make it count. Instead of just unhappily throwing something on everyday, make it fun for yourself! Even if a fun outfit means yoga leggings and your favorite t-shirt, you need to wear what is going to let you leave the house with an extra pep in your step. If you follow me on social media, I'm sure you have seen plenty of ootd shots in my bedroom mirror. As annoying as that may be for my social media friends (verdict please?), I enjoy doing it.

Avoid wearing what you think people expect you to wear or whatever is currently trending. Now don't get me wrong, I love to follow trends! That's something fun for me and I love to try new things when it comes to my fashion choices! But there have also been trends that I straight up HATED, so I let those have a hard pass. And if your personality is saying no to being trendy, follow that voice and really embrace it. If it's something that doesn't suit you and your personal style, ditch it. Obviously this doesn't always work for your place of employment, but even using a little bit of personal creativity will change your day.

The main thing I have learned is to not let others judge my choices. I can not stress this enough. I know that is a hard reality, it took me a while to let go of peoples judgements. But once I did, it was a game changer because that's when I actually started wearing what I wanted rather than just trying to blend in or impress others.

A huge reason that I love blogging is having the opportunity to show off my personal style (of course) and that I am showing everyone my actual closet. I know its rough out there right now ladies. It seems that just about every girl is sponsored or being given untouchable designer clothing on the regular, and that's not realistic for the rest of us! So I urge you to not let these bloggers and influencers get you down! You can look and feel just as amazing as these girls if you stick to what YOU like and makes YOU feel great. Personal style is what makes you stand out, not another gifted designer bag. And when you put together an insane outfit with items from your own closet (and if your like me, lots of pieces in there from Forever 21), it will be that much more badass and over all impressive!

Real style comes from within. Not from being an exact copy or from a strictly designer closet. Work with what you've got and give yourself a better day! Hope you got a kick out of all my different 'style personalities'! And thank you for reading through my rambling thoughts! If you have any questions about me and my style, please comment away! xx
